Cal North / NorCal Premier Soccer
Overview
Cal North (operated as NorCal Premier Soccer) is one of two regional US Youth Soccer (USYS) state associations in California, governing recreational and competitive youth soccer in Northern California (north of the Tehachapi Mountains). Alongside Cal South, it serves as one of California’s two USYS member associations. The NorCal market is more fragmented than SoCal with fewer PE-backed operators, making it more favorable for roll-up strategy. Estimated 150,000+ registered players in the NorCal footprint.
Structure
Boys and girls divisions from recreational through state cup competitive tiers. Annual NorCal State Cup qualifies for USYS Regional and National Championships. Sub-regions include the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento Valley, Fresno/Central Valley, North Bay, and East Bay.
Player Pathway
State competition sits beneath national platforms (ecnl, mls-next, girls-academy). Cal North/NorCal affiliation required for all clubs operating in Northern California. San Jose Earthquakes Academy provides MLS-funded pathway in the Bay Area.
